Guava leaf extract has been part of ancient home remedies for centuries. It was used to treat ailments such as cough and pulmonary diseases in Bolivia and Egypt. Guava contains vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants, all of which can help cure symptoms of cough, says Ayurveda expert Dr Chanchal Sharma.

“There are various bioactive compounds present in guava leaves, including essential oils, and phenolic compounds that act as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidants. The mycolic qualities of guava leaves help to remove mucus from pulmonary tracts and minimize the risk of cough,” adds the expert.
